I want to tell you a very important secret I’ve discovered. It’s the secret to Christianity; the secret to being successful at it. This secret is revolutionary if it’s actually applied. Are you ready for it? Are you sure? Be careful who you tell. If too many people find out it might change the world. Ok, here it is.
Show up to what? (You might ask)
Not so much in a physical sense, but in a spiritual way. Some people struggle with following Christ because they’re absent. They are absent from His presence. They follow religious rules and regulations dogmatically, but they don’t experience the presence of the God who created them. Think about when Jesus asked Peter and Andrew or James and John to follow Him. What if they called in sick that day? What if they were in another fishing location? They would’ve missed an invitation from the Son of God! They would’ve never experienced the incredible journey they went on with Him.
Abraham was called a friend of God. I believe that God desires to be more than our creator. He wants to be our friend. We grow in our friendship with God when we spend time with Him. In order to spend time with Him I need to show up. You need to show up. We need to show up!
You need to show up with your bible open, ready to listen to Him, as you read the love letter He wrote to humanity. You need to show up through prayer. Before the business of the day settles in you need to talk to your heavenly father who desires to commune with you. You need to show up at church. We grow when we experience the life of Jesus through other people. We need to be people that show up. I am convinced that is the secret to making Christianity work.
In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. I will be found by you, says the Lord.
This week I want to encourage you to simply show up. Before you start your day stop for a second and say “I’m here, Lord. Speak. Your servant is listening.” That’s what the Prophet Samuel said to God as a little boy. He decided to show up and listen to what God was telling him. When that happens, when we show up, we are promised in the Holy Scriptures that the God of the universe will show up. We will find him and partake in His divine nature, we will have the ability to clothe ourselves with His refreshing presence, we are promised that He will transform our minds, and soften our hearts. However, before all those wonderful things take place we have to be faithful to show up.
I’m Harold Dorrell Briscoe. Thanks for reading.
