Qualifying the Called

I never went to Seminary. I’d like to go one day. I love growing in my knowledge and understanding of the Ancient One. When I first started my current job as the Young Professional’s Pastor, I felt a bit inadequate. I didn’t have a degree in theology. This sense of inadequacy often plagued me in the past. For years, I was scared to share my faith in Jesus because I wasn’t an “expert” in Christology. Things have changed for me now, but it’s still easy to feel insufficient. If you feel like you lack in your knowledge in theology and if that feeling leads you to be scared of telling others about Jesus take hope in this scripture:

But Amos replied, “I’m not a professional prophet, and I was never trained to be one. I’m just a shepherd, and I take care of sycamore-fig trees. But the Lord called me away from my flock and told me, ‘Go and prophesy to my people in Israel.’ Now then, listen to this message from the Lord

Amos 7:14-16

Amos wasn’t a professionally paid prophet. He was a simple man. He studied horticulture and tended animals. BUT the Lord called him. God doesn’t care about calling the qualified. He cares about qualifying the called. People think that they have to be professionally paid Christians to do great things for God….WRONG. Throughout scripture God used ordinary men and women to do the extraordinary.

God will prepare you. He said in Matthew 10 that He will give us the right words to say at the right time, but we have to take a drastic approach to follow Him. Many people want to experience the blessing and benefits of a relationship with the Lamb of God, but don’t want to do the work of seeking Him through His word or prayer.

It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God. He has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant. This is a covenant not of written laws, but of the Spirit.

2 Corinthians 3:5-6

God’s plan for your life involves you sharing the greatest message humanity has ever heard. Do not be afraid of people. God will qualify you. Your voice will ring with conviction. However, in order for you to have conviction you must be convicted in the presence of Jesus. Remember, our qualification comes from Jesus. He paid the price for our sins with His life. From that merciful act we are now qualified to walk boldly into presence of God. We are qualified to proclaim this message to a world that desperately needs it.

Whenever you feel like you don’t know enough don’t be discouraged. Please don’t feel that you have to gain a bunch of knowledge before you do something for Jesus. If you are following Him and seeking Him than God will anoint you and empower you to do amazing things! Walk in that confidence. Know that Jesus qualifies you and has enabled you to be a minister of this new and beautiful covenant He offers to humanity.

  1. I used to want so many things thats different from what I want now. I wanted hot girls, going out to parties, bars, living for the moment without hinking about repurcussions or the bigger picture. Without God and Christ. These days I would like a family.of my own to celebrate the greatness of God. Is like a fulfilled.life with God in every moment of my life. Every decision I make. Every thought I have. And as a Christian it is our duty to share this message of love and hope and be a representative of Gods teachings. I really like the idea of sharing your faith with others who has not yet recognized the significance of it in their lives. I try to do this and expand his kingdom. We would be remiss if we didn’t share the gospel.
