When I returned, I was surprised by the sight of many trees growing on both sides of the river. Then he said to me, “This river flows east through the desert into the valley of the Dead Sea. The waters of this stream will make the salty waters of the Dead Sea fresh and pure. There will be swarms of living things wherever the water of this river flows. Fish will abound in the Dead Sea, for its waters will become fresh. Life will flourish wherever this water flows. -Ezekiel 47:7-9
Jesus came to give us life. He has the ability to give us life because He is the author of life, the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. At the beginning of this chapter, an angel led Ezekiel deeper and deeper into this river. Similarly, your walk with God will go deeper as you stay connected to the Lord. As we continue to be obedient to God, we will experience deeper levels of intimacy with Him.
As God’s life flows through us, we will see a transformative effect on the environment around us. Swarms of living things will be present in our spheres of influence. God wants to flow through us to change and populate the desolate places in our society! As God uses us, He will direct us to those who walk in a continuous state of hopelessness and despair.
As we stay connected to God, we will bear fruit. Jesus said in John 15 to remain in me and only then will you produce fruit. God is calling us to bear fruit and bring life! The environment should change when you’re around different places. A dedicated Christ follower is a thermostat who has the ability through the power of the Holy Spirit to change the “temperature” in the room.
But the marshes and swamps will not be purified; they will still be salty. -Ezekiel 47:11
We must not become swamps. A swamp has no outlet. It is stagnant because it has no outflow. Do not be a believer who sits around and receives all the time. You must flow out to the bowels of our society with the Good News that Jesus brings salvation and reconciliation to all who believe in Him! We must not stay in the church barn while the harvest is out rotting in the fields.
Let the Lord flow through you. Become a river. Don’t just wade in the water and wait for something to stir. Be the one to stir the water. Go deeper in your relationship with God and watch the wonders of life teem all around you.
