Are You Aware? Pt. 1

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son.

– Ephesians 1:3-7

….Of your inheritance. Meaning that in Christ we have all the benefits of knowing God – being chosen for salvation, being adopted as his children, forgiveness, insight, the gifts of the Spirit, power to do God’s will, the hope of living forever with Christ. Because we have an intimate, dynamic, and personal relationship with Christ we get to experience those things now! Hallelujah! This knowledge should inform your theology. God is not the distant unmoved mover that Aristotle described Him as. He is imminent and active! Eager to shower blessings on His adopted children.

We have to be aware of these blessings and promises. We have this rich inheritance because of God’s great grace and mercy. It’s like I have $1 million sitting in a bank account waiting to be used, but I have no idea that my distant relative willed it to me. I don’t even know that money is mine. It’s right there, but I’m not aware of that amount in my account. When we study this passage of Ephesians 1 it should be a pleasant and exciting reminder of the gifts and the blessings that God has given us.

I see this a lot in the body of Christ. People don’t have a proper understanding of the vastness of their inheritance. Some of us don’t realize the rich promises and blessings that are bestowed on us through God’s redemption and subsequent adoption into His family.

When we don’t walk in the reality of our inheritance and identity in Christ we live with a scarcity mentality. If I think I only have $20 in my bank account I’m going to be quite reluctant and hesitant in my generosity. I’m not going to give emotionally and relationally to others, because I just don’t think I have anything in my account, but if I have $1 million in my account I will be far more likely to walk in the great generosity because of my knowledge of the abundance that I possess.

Ask Jesus to give you a heart revelation of the inheritance you have as an adopted child of God almighty. It will change your perspective! It will encourage you!
