Happy Mother’s Day

mom 2

Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.  Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands. How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them! He will not be put to shame when he confronts his accusers at the city gates.
Psalm 127:3-5

When I was initially dating Tracy I had no idea what type of mother she would be. I didn’t think she would be horrible; she just didn’t show any nurturing qualities before we got married. When we’re together she wasn’t particularly warm to other children. She wasn’t hostile, but certainly wasn’t a baby whisperer. Boy, was I wrong about her! I have been amazed at how she parents our children.

Here are a couple of reasons why I think she is a great mom:

Patience – The grace that she gives our kids is profound. Now don’t get it twisted, she is a firm disciplinary, but I’m always amazed at the patience she has for our children. I love that about her.

Sticks to Her Convictions – Tracy is a firm believer in certain values and they shape how she parents. She has certain priorities on what matters most and she sticks to them. I love that about her.

Learner –  This woman reads parenting books all the time. She is constantly learning how to be a better mom. I feel convicted, because I’ve never read one parenting book while Trace has read dozens. Her tenacity to learn how to be a better mom inspires me. I love that about her.

Hard Working – She cooks, cleans, and chases kids every day. The kids don’t just exist in her world. She makes them apart of what she does. My wife works hard. I can barely watch all the kids by myself for an hour, let alone all day! I love that about her.

Pursues Moments – Tracy isn’t satisfied with just getting through the day. She pursues moments with our kids. She takes them all in and doesn’t let the moments pass her by. She can’t get enough of them. I love how she loves our children and pauses through the craziness of the day to take in the moment. I love that about her.

Protective – I love how she protects them. Tracy is a mama hen who keeps a cautious eye on her chicks. I used to wonder why she was so careful about who watches our kids (I’m a bit lax in that area), but I’ve come to appreciate her diligence in protecting our kids. I love that about her.

Intimacy – She genuinely desires a close relationship with each child and is dedicated to getting to know them in an intimate way. She understands the various nuances in their personality and enjoys how unique each one is. Tracy is so intentional about increasing the quantity of quality time with our kids. I love that about her.

Passes the Faith – I love that my wife takes time to pray over our children. She reads the word to them and teaches them about Jesus. I thank God that I have a wife who is passionately in love with Jesus and desires for our kids to have a personal relationship with our King. I love that about her.

Trace, I love you and our children adore you. Thank you for loving our children the way you do. It makes my heart skip a beat when I see they you look at our children. All the work you do does not go unnoticed. Harold Luke, Noah Dorrell, and Amelia Hope are so blessed to have you as their mom. Happy Mother’s Day.

I’m Harold Dorrell Briscoe. Thanks for reading.
